Education in pc ERA

draft version 22 Apr 2020 11:36am

This week completed 1 month of daily zoom.us call organized by Vishal Kumar of https://learningwhiletravelling.com/  at 10pm EST, Topics are a wide range and participants are also from varying backgrounds but mainly Entreprenurs & Students.  Last two sessions have been on Education.

Yesterday and today I spoke a lot on Online Education so thought will share some thoughts on Online Education from my expefiencs and perspective since have been a student, educator & education entrepreneur since school days.

Below are few thoughts on Online Education.

Here pC stands for pre-Corona & post-Corona and not Personal Computer. Many decades back we had this Vision/Dream expressed by Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates to have a PC on every desktop.  He said, “Early on, Paul Allen and I set the goal of a computer on every desk and in every home. It was a bold idea and a lot of people thought we were out of our minds to imagine it was possible,” Gates wrote. “It is amazing to think about how far computing has come since then, and we can all be proud of the role Microsoft played in that revolution.”. https://www.statista.com/statistics/203734/global-smartphone-penetration-per-capita-since-2005/ (Now we have almost half of Human Population wih a smartphone (3.3Billion Plus). Soon we might reach that terget.

Here, I am using pC ERA as post-Corona era just like BC as Before Christ, we can say till 2020 pc stood for pre-Corona and post-Corona era. Of course I am making an opimistic projection that we will find a cure for Covid19 this year. The impact of Covid19 across industries, continents will be a civilizational level transition or change just like the Industrial Revolution and post-Industrial era . Many are calling it as the 4th  Industrial Revolution and will be dominated by AI, ML, Robotic Automation etc

Here I will like to talk about one industry and that is Education. We already had major positive disruptions in the industry via Internet. We have Online Education reach global audiences and at affordable rates or free. Few enablers are

  1. Khan Academy
  2. Coursera
  3. MIT Open Courseware
  4. Wikipedia
  5. YouTube

As i stated writig this blog did a quick google search and found a great collection i found at themuse, com  Will update the one for online course in India too

Then, it pairs you with options from Coursera, edX, and other forums to find what best suits your needs, making the process even easier!

    My Summary thoughts
Online Education is not an option or luxaey but willl be the main form of education even in a post-Corona world. Yes we will have schools, colleges, coaching institutins but online classes will be primay or mainstream across the world.

BC is Before Corona now

Most of the world currently runs by Roman/Western Calendar system where BC stands for Before Christ and AD B.C.” stands for the English phrase “before Christ,” but “A.D.” stands confusingly for a Latin phrase: anno domini (“in the year of the Lord”—the year Jesus was born). … Traditionally “A.D.” was placed before the year number and “B.C.” after, but many people now prefer to put both abbreviations after the numbers.

In my view given the civilization scale impact of Covid19 / Corona Virus on the way we work, live, and relax it may make sense to start calling pre-2020 AD as Pre Corona World and pre 2020 as Post Corona World. It’s not just about nomenclature but also the way society starts thinking, behaving, living, learning, and working. Internet-based businesses will be the new normal.

Those of us who are still operating primarily living and operating in the brick mortar world and delaying the Hybrid model or Digital First will soon start getting irrelevant.

Yes, we will still have Hospitals, Schools, Offices, Governments but larger parts of their services/operations will be operating remotely and via digital/internet.

Digital Transformation used to be a very popular pitch by many consulting companies ( Both Business as well as Technology) but soon that will be the baseline for all businesses. Thinkers /philosophers and modern-day Sages like Yuval Noah Harari have chronicled the evolution of our species from Sapiens to Homo Deux in his best selling books and speeches. Now 2020 will be the year when masses will start to believe in the idea. It is an extinction-level threat and few societies and governments have started to take it that way. AI, Machine Learning & Robotic Automation will need to be added to the primary school curriculum just like Reading, Writing, Maths, Sciences currently are. If we are not trained and certified in AI, ML, Robotics then we will start being considered as Illiterate

    4) Chennai / India: Kaleidofin team led by IIMA 2001 MBA Sucharita Mukherjee I am writing to you today to share some of the work that we are doing with reference to communication with reference to COVID19. We noticed that much of the communication was designed towards middle-class households. The notion of quarantine and social distancing in a rural context where even water supply could be common is much harder. With this challenge in mind, the Kaleidofin team lead by Hemnag and Vipul partnered with a public health NGO (Noora) to come up with these messages as open source, Unbranded messages that can be used by everyone for all of their customers. We have been using these messages for the last few days and have witnessed very good listen rates. There is also a demand sometimes for the message to be repeated. Here is a link to the audio clips (in Hindi) that explain in some detail various aspects of COVID prevention in a manner that’s relevant to our customer base. We have been using this for some time and are getting 80 percent plus listen rates from the customers to whom these calls have been pushed. The below are provided: Introduction, About COVID-19 (in 2 parts) Handwashing (in 2 parts) Don’t Touch Face  Social Distancing (in 4 parts)  Link to Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16j1LpLUbpjhVM7NCm3XGng9lqEP8or94?usp=sharing  Do give us your feedback and do feel free to send these to others to who they may be relevant
